Volcano Bromo tour, Kalibaru plantations & turtles - 4 days / 3 nights
Bromo, an active volcano in an ancient caldera with the highest mountain of Java on the background. Kalibaru, since decades a productive plantation area. And, Sukamade turtle beach to see these wonderful animals laying eggs.

Day 1: Surabaya (hotel or airport) – Cemara Lawang village overlooking Mt. Bromo and the Sand Sea
You will be picked up in Surabaya, either at the airport or at your hotel. Your first destination is Cemara Lawang village. This village overlooks the active volcano Bromo. If time is sufficient you can visit the Madakaripura Waterfalls on your way to Cemara Lawang. During the raining season, most often you can't visit the waterfall. After you checked in at your hotel, you have time to enjoy yourself.
Day 2: Mt. Pananjakan sunrise – King Kong hill – Mt. Bromo – Kalibaru plantation area
Wakey wakey.... you will be waken up at three o'clock in the morning. If you wish, you can have a cup of coffee or tea before departure to Mt. Pananjakan, the highest viewpoint in the area. At Pananjakan you can enjoy the scenery of Mt. Bromo and the sunrise (depends on the weather conditions). After sunrise you will descend to the sea of sand and to see the crater of the active volcano Bromo. Once satisfied, you go back to Cemara Lawang to have breakfast before continuing to Kalibaru. On the way you have time to stop as you wish or just strech your legs in impossibly green rice fields. Upon arrival in Kalibaru village you will have time to yourself and to take a swim in the swimming pool of the hotel.
Day 3: Explore plantation area of Kalibaru – adventure to Sukamade turtle beach
First you will explore the plantations of Kalibaru and see how coffee, rubber and cacao grows and is processed.
After breakfast, you continue your tour to Sukamade turtle beach by four wheel drive. Before getting there, you will cross the extensive plantations of East Java and the mountain range of the Meru Betiri National Park. You will stop at a local village and at a white sandy beach.
In Meru Betiri National Park you will find the protected Sukamade ‘Turtle Beach’, a wild 3 kilometer sand strip on the Indian Ocean where 5 species of turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. Once arrived, you still have time to walk around the local kampong where people make brown sugar.
In the evening a ranger will guide you to find sea turtles who come a shore to lay their eggs. A female turtle lays more than hundred eggs. The turtles usually start to land at 19.30 and return to the sea around midnight.
Day 4: Releasing baby turtles – Ketapang (ferry to Bali)
Early morning you can release some baby turtles into the sea. Breakfast will be served at the homestay before driving to Ketapang where you can take the ferry to Bali. On your way to the ferry you can stop where you wish or have a break at a local restaurant. We will drop you in Ketapang at the ferry.
