Rafting and visiting Mt. Bromo & Ijen Crater Lake - 4 days / 3 nights
A superb adventure; rafting, in between climbing two volcanoes. Mt. Bromo is surrounded by a green savanna and a black sea of sand, a real surprising setting. Ijen crater lake is the worlds most acidic lake.

Day 1: Surabaya – Bentar beach – Sempol coffee plantation area Ijen Plateau
The driver will pick you up in Surabaya. It will be around 7 hours driving before you arrive at Sempol village at the coffee plantation at the Ijen Plateau. During your travel to the plateau, you will have a break at Bentar beach to strech your legs. We will also stop at a restaurant to have lunch (not included). You drive to Sempol via Arak-Arak Hill and Bondowoso. At Sempol you will spend the night in a homestay. If time allows you to, you can take a bath in a sulfuric hot spring.
Day 2: Ijen crater lake – Explore the Ijen Plateau
Early morning at 03.00 It will be a short drive to Paltuding. Here you will start walking to the Ijen crater lake. The Ijen crater lake is about 1 km in diameter and 175 meters deep. The lake is warm, milky blue green in color, and held back by a dam. Above all, it is the most acidic lake in the world! The dam was built by the Dutch before the Second World War in order to keep the water from flowing ti the farm land. Take your time to discover the area.
Once back at the parking area, don't forget to visit the sulfur weighing area. After a small break at one of the food stalls, you return to the homestay for a rest. After noon there is time to explore the Ijen Plateau; among others one can visit the coffee plantation and the coffee factory, the sulfuric hot spring and a waterfall. You also will have free time to relax.
Day 3: Ijen Plateau – Rafting river Pekalen – Cemara Lawang – Mt. Bromo
After breakfast we will leave the Ijen Plateau behind and drive about 4 hrs to the rafting spot near Probolinggo. Test your rafting skills at the river Pekalen (Grade II - III+). With a width varying between 5 and 20 meters and between 1 and 3 meters depth, you will have to concur some waterfalls and more than 50 rapids. The distance is 12 kilometers or about 3.5 hours adventure time.
After rafting, you will continue to the active volcano Bromo. You will spend the night in Cemara Lawang village. From this village you have a direct view over Mt. Bromo. After checking in, you have some spare time.
Day 4: Mt. Panajakan sunrise tour – Sea of Sand – Luhur Poten temple – Mt. Bromo – savanna – Surabaya
At 3.30 in the morning you'll be wake up. A local Jeep will drive you to the famous view point at Mt. Penanjakan. Here you can enjoy the sunrise (if not cloudy) with Mt. Semeru at the background.
When the sun has risen and you feel a little bit warm, the adventure continues to Mt. Bromo. By Jeep you will cross the black Sea of Sand and you will park near the Hindu Pura Luhur temple. Then it is a 45 minutes walk one way. You can hire a horse if you don't feel like walking (not included). Look at the crater and overlook the surroundings.
When back at the Jeep, we proceed to the "untouched" area of Mt. Bromo, also called "The Whispering Savanna". You'll find yourself in the middle of nowhere while absorbing the greenness. Then, the Jeep will bring you back to your hotel for breakfast. After checking out, you will be heading to Surabaya with some stops as you wish, but that also depends on your flight departure time.
