Heroic Bromo, bewildering Ijen, and pristine Alas Purwo NP - 4 days / 3 nights
Visit East Java's two most famous volcanoes; Bromo and Ijen. National Park Alas Purwo is remote, hardly developed and fascinating, consisting in savanna, mangrove forest and lowland tropical forest.

Day 1: Discover the Hindu area around mount Bromo
Your team will pick you up in Surabaya. Have a break during the coming 3 to 4 hours. Unwind in your air conditioned car, while you will be driven to Cemara Lawang village.
Cemara Lawang is pinned down at the rim of the ancient caldera in which one can find the epic mount Bromo. Foggy mornings, chilly evenings, sunny afternoons. Each kind of weather creates its own colorful environment.

Day 2: Bromo sunrise tour
Open your eyes early morning if you wish to see the sunrise. Most celebrated is viewpoint Pananjakan. A remarkable sunrise experience at an height of 2770 m under temperatures that vary between 0 and 10 degrees Celsius. If you wish another experience - another viewpoint, an early morning hike, get up later - let us know. Together we can assemble a suitable program.
A warming coffee break to adjust to the temperature and to wait for the perfect moment. Enjoy a moment in a local warung.
Then settle at the actual viewpoint to capture the moments. Colors transform smoothly while the sun is rising. Slowly the warmth gets to your.
Eventually you will meet with your driver again. He will bring you to the magical black Sea of Sand.
When ready continue to the parking area near Luhur Poten temple. A 45 minutes walk separates you from the top of the active volcano Bromo.
The world around you is grey. Dark grey. Light grey. Grey-ish grey... Look back. Every now and then.

Whenever you are ready, you head back to the hotel to have breakfast.
After a refreshing shower and checking out, you continue via Arak-Arak hill to Bondowoso city.

Day 3: Ijen crater lake trekking
You will depart around 04:00. It is a 2 hours drive to Paltuding.
At Paltuding your hike to Ijen crater lake starts. You will need about 1 to 1.5 hours to reach the top. Slopes are steep every now and then. The 3 km hike is strenuous.
You will run into sulphur miners at work. They wheel down their harvest.
Once at the crater lake, regain your breath. Observe the volcanic environment of surreal beauty.
Many of the miners will be working in the crater. They cut loose and then collect the solidified sulphur at the end of ceramic pipes. A dangerous working area. Near the most acidic lake on earth. Anything that falls into the lake will be 'returned to dust' in just a few seconds. The miners carry the sulphur in bamboo baskets on their shoulders up hill and out of the crater. They reload their harvest of about 80 to 100 kg on a trolley.
Once back at the parking lot, don't forget to stop by the sulphur weighing area. Sulphur miners weigh their harvest, get paid and load the sulphur on a truck.
Then you head in the direction of Alas Purwo National Park.
Discovery ideas: 1. blue fire; you will have to leave around midnight to see the blue fire. Please note that seeing the blue fire is only for those in a healthy and good condition as hiking into the crater of an active volcano holding the most acidic lake on earth isn't without a risk. 2. Day 4: Alas Purwo wildlife
The best time to spot animals is of course early morning. But, it is up to you when you would like to leave. Keep in mind that it is still a two hours drive from Jajag village to the National Park. In the park you can find animals as the banteng, Asiatic wild dogs, green peacocks, red jungle fowl, deer, panther, leopard, and some kind of turtles. And, from October till December you can meet 16 types of migrating birds from Australia. On this trip, you can discuss with the ranger what you would like to see.
Finally, we will drop you at the harbor in Ketapang to take the ferry to Bali. Keep in mind that Bali time is one hour ahead of Java time.
