Day 1: Malang - Madakaripura waterfalls - Cemara Lawang
You will reach Cemara Lawang in about 3 hours. Before reaching Cemara Lawang you can visit the mystical waterfall Madakaripura. To reach the waterfall we cross a small beautiful river with clear fresh water and andesit stones. After a 15 minutes walk, you will see the falling water. Be ready to get wet... Behind the waterfall is a small cave, that is known as the meditation site of Gajahmada.
After your visit to the waterfall, we continue to the village Cemara Lawang village. Here you are free to explore the area or just relax in your hotel.
Day 2: Mt. Pananjakan - Mt. Bromo - Bondowoso
At 03:30 in the morning, which indeed is very very early, you depart to Mt. Pananjakan. The highest view point around the crater of Mt. Bromo, from where you can see the sunrise (depending on weather conditions). Panoramas can be surprising and even spectacular and Mt. Semeru.
After you have warmed up a little bit, we will drive through the Sea of Sand to visit the active volcano Mt. Bromo. Walk in just 40 minutes to the crater rim, stop several times and enjoy where you actually are. Once back at your 4WD, you will be brought back to your hotel in Cemara Lawang to have breakfast.
After breakfast you will have to check out. You will depart to Bondowoso city. You can have a break (not included) at the winding road over the Arak-Arak hill enroute to Bondowoso city.
The drive from Cemara Lawang to Bondowoso takes more or less 5 hours.
Arrival time Bondowoso, by estimation: 16:00.
Day 3: Bondowoso - Ijen Crater Lake - Meru Betiri - Sukamade
At 02:00 you will have to get up as it will be a long adventurous day. The drive from Bondowoso to Paltuding takes 2 hours.
In Paltuding your hike to the top of mount Ijen starts. Although it is just a 3 km walk, it takes more than an hour to get there. This rather steep walk will be rewarded with a magnificent view over the blue greenish Ijen Crater Lake; the most acidic lake on earth. While hiking to the top you will meet many sulfur miners. Nowadays most miners use trolleys to wheel their sulfur harvest down Ijen's slopes.
Once back at the parking area don't forget to visit the sulfur weighing area just behind it.
Before departing enjoy a cup of coffee and maybe a local snack, because it will take another 5 to 6 hours to reach your next destination.
In Pesanggaran you can enjoy a local lunch before changing cars. You will have to get by 4wd to Meru Betiri National Park. En-route you will have some interesting stops as you will pass plantations and beaches.
At 19:00 a park ranger will guide you to the Sukamade turtle beach. A 3 km sand strip on the Indian Ocean where 5 species of turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. Female turtles lay more than one hundred eggs. The sea turtles usually come ashore around 19:30 and return to the sea around midnight.
Day 4: Sukamade - Ketapang - Gilimanuk - Bali
The first thing in the morning is releasing baby turtles at Sukamade beach. After releasing these tiny wonders, you will get back to your homestay for breakfast. Then prepare to check out.
On the way to Ketapang harbor you will pass (and visit if you wish) 2 beautiful beaches, namely Green Bay and Rajegwesi beach.
Then you can stop for lunch in a local restaurant, before finally arriving in Ketapang harbor. Crossing the Bali Strait takes about 1 hour and Bali time is 1 hour behind Java time.
