Day 1: Surabaya (hotel or airport) – Cemara Lawang village overlooking Mt. Bromo and the Sand Sea
You will be picked up in Surabaya, either at the airport or at your hotel. Your first destination is Cemara Lawang village. This village overlooks the active volcano Bromo.
If time is sufficient you can visit the Madakaripura Waterfalls on your way to Cemara Lawang. During the raining season, the waterfall is often closed as the amount of water discharged by the waterfall is enormous.
After you checked in at your hotel, you have time to enjoy yourself.
Day 2: Bromo sunrise – King Kong hill – mount Bromo – Kalibaru coffee plantations
Wakey wakey.... time to wake up early. At 03:00 your private Jeep is waiting. First destination: mount Pananjakan, the highest viewpoint in the area. Colors are changing fast while the sun is rising.
Then navigate through the volcanic ashen black Sea of Sand to park near Luhur Poten temple. Walk in about 45 min to the top of mount Bromo.
Meet your driver again to head back to your hotel. Have breakfast and a welcoming shower.
Continue to Kalibaru. Stop when you feel up to it. Stretch your legs in impossible green rice fields.

Day 3: Explore Kalibaru plantation area – adventure to Sukamade turtle beach
First you will explore the plantations of Kalibaru and see how coffee, rubber and cacao grows and is processed.
After breakfast, you continue your tour to Sukamade turtle beach in Meru Betiri National Park by four wheel drive. Cross the extensive plantations of East Java and the mountain range of the Meru Betiri National Park. You will stop at a local village and at a white sandy beach.
Upon arrival walk around the kampong where locals produce brown sugar.
In the evening a ranger will guide you to the protected Sukamade ‘Turtle Beach’, a wild 3 km sand strip on the Indian Ocean where 5 species of turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. The turtles usually start to land at 19.30 and return to the sea around midnight.
Day 4: Releasing baby turtles – Ketapang (ferry to Bali)
Early morning you can release baby turtles into the sea, if any have hatched. It is a heart-warming moment to witness the pure instinct of these baby turtles.
Breakfast will be served at your homestay.
Drive in a few hours to Ketapang harbour where you can take the ferry to Bali. On your way to the ferry you can stop where you wish or have a break at a local restaurant.
